Root Resection of Multlrooted Teeth : Review Article & Case Reprts

Abstract
Less invasive modes of therapy have failed (scaling, root, planing, occlusal adjustment et. al.) to save teeth with furcation involvement at a long times ago, but it is no longer necessary to lose a molar with furcation problem. Hemisection and root amputation bring good prognosis to furcation involvements. And this treatments use on not only furcation involvement with periodontal destruction. But also failed endodontics treatments.

Hemisection denotes the removal of half the tooth : removal of the crown and one roots, useful of mandibular molar. Root amputation is the sectioning of a maxillary molar, with the removal of one or two roots, without removal of the crown.

This study will review current articles of the hemisection and root amputation and will discuss the usefulness of hemisection and root amputation with case reports.
